In this session at the ITS World Congress I spoke about my belief that probe based maps are required in order to support Highly Automated Driving, and that these maps would, in fact, be one of the major motivations for vehicle OEMs to connect vehicles and provide data to the infrastructure. This is one of the first public presentations I did on behalf of Vehicle Data Science, sort of a coming out, although not all the way. This presentation did lead to a number of interesting conversations with tier 1s and OEMS about the value of connected vehicle data. In this session Monali Shah from HERE gave the first presentation I have seen on HD maps and live maps, very similar to our thinking, although HERE always starts from a LIDAR scan which we would like to avoid in order to address rural problems. We were hoping for a little more lead, but it is nice to have our market validated by such a large competitor. |
